About Coherence Research
Coherence Research is an organization based in Kansas City, Missouri. We publish open structural coherence standards — formal specifications that define the conditions under which systems maintain integrity as they scale, transform, and compose.
Our flagship publication is the Structural Coherence — Anchor Specification (SC-AS), a domain-neutral formal specification that defines coherence as integrity under change. It is a structural specification: a closed set of formally defined conditions that any system must satisfy to remain coherent, each stated with its dependencies and why it is needed. It applies independently of domain, substrate, or scale. Frameworks, theories, and applications are built on it and cite it; the specification itself changes only through versioned releases.
All specifications are published under CC BY-ND 4.0. Independent implementation — including commercial implementation — is unrestricted.
About the Founder
Jason Carroll is the founder and Primary Architect of Coherence Research.
Jason brings over 25 years of professional experience spanning network engineering, software architecture, systems design, brand strategy, organizational consulting, and business development. His career has been defined by a consistent thread: understanding how complex systems hold together — and what happens when they don’t.
The work that became Coherence Research began as a personal investigation into why systems at every scale — technical, organizational, personal — fail in structurally similar ways. That investigation led to a formal specification that captures the invariant conditions of structural integrity, independent of any particular domain.
SC-AS is the result of over two years of rigorous development, held to a discipline of pre-disciplinary austerity — admitting only what is necessary, representable, and enforceable. Every construct traces to explicitly defined primitives. Nothing is imported from external frameworks. The specification is self-contained, self-auditing, and independently verifiable.
Jason is the Primary Architect and sole author of the canonical SC-AS documents. Coherence Research is their issuing authority.
